UltraSystems Federally Recognized as Women-owned Small Business (WOSB)

More than twenty years ago, National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC) became the first organization to create a national certification program for women-owned businesses. Certification enables contractors to identify, quantify and report the extent to which they utilize woman-owned and controlled businesses as suppliers. UltraSystems celebrates their new recognition after undertaking the NWBOC rigorous application process.

Certification Process

The WOSB certification relates solely to the SBA procurement program for women business owners. Certifications are obtained by meeting the necessary criteria as outlined in NWBOC’s Standards and Procedures. The standards were established by the U.S. Small Business Administration, as set forth in 13 C.F.R. Part 127. The National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC) is an approved Third-Party Certifier pursuant to the Third-Party Certifier Agreement, dated June 30, 2011, and available at www.sba.gov/wosb.

Meeting Requirements

Having a certification is the only way purchasing agents can be confident a business is in fact woman, minority or veteran-owned and operated. As such, the business must be under the control of and decision making by a woman owner, meet Small Business Association (SBA) size requirements, and substantially underrepresented NAICS codes for women-owned companies as listed by by the SBA. Applicants then need to provide detailed business information along with supporting documents.

UltraSystems Certified

UltraSystems provided all of the necessary information including detailed company history, legal structure, and supporting documentation with Betsy A. Lindsay, President/CEO, as controlling interest for S Corporation in the State of California. Gail Anderson, NWBOC Representative, wrote, “Our decision was made per the standards and procedures of the National Women Business Owners Corporation, the first national certifier of women business enterprises” in her notification letter.

UltraSystems encourages other women-owned, minority or disadvantaged small businesses to pursue their own certifications to strengthen the business community in Southern California, especially in the environmental field with NAICS codes of 541620 Environmental Consulting Services, 541330 Engineering Services, 541370 Surveying and Mapping (except Geophysical) Services, and 541720 Research and Development in the Social Sciences and Humanities.
