Tugboat Air Emissions Study
UltraSystems managed an evaluation of air emissions from tugboats operating in the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach. The primary focus of this project was to quantify criteria air pollutant emissions from tugboats operated by four companies based in the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles. First, from information supplied by tugboat operators, a highly detailed inventory of individual tugboats was prepared. Engine-specific emission factors were obtained from manufacturers, the California Air Resources Board, and other sources. Fuel consumption was estimated on the basis of known consumption rates and assumptions regarding times in different operating modes.
