Pine Canyon Road Reconstruction

The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works (LACDPW) proposed the reconstruction of 9.59 miles of Pine Canyon Road between Three Points Road and Lake Hughes Road, county roads near the rural communities of Lake Hughes and Three Points in unincorporated Los Angeles County, California.  Approximately 6.25 miles of Pine Canyon Road are located within the Angeles National Forest, which is managed by the United States Forest Service.  Project work will include resurfacing and widening of the roadway, replacing and extending culverts and their headwalls, grading, guardrail replacement and installation, and tree removal.  UltraSystems archaeologists conducted a literature review of the cultural resources within the APE at the South Central Coastal Information Center (SSCIC), a part of the California Historic Resources Inventory System, and contacted the Native American Heritage Commission for Native American comment and response.  Six previously recorded archaeological sites were identified in the literature.  The Native American Heritage Commission found no Native American Sacred Lands within the area.
