East Avenue O Bike Path
The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works (LACDPW) in coordination with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposed to construct a Class I Bikeway (Bike Path) or a Class II Bikeway (Bike Lane) on East Ave O from 150th Street to 165th Street in Lake Los Angeles, unincorporated Los Angeles County, California, in order to improve the area for use by bicyclists and to enhance motorist and bicyclist safety and mobility. UltraSystems biologists conducted a literature review and field survey of the biological resources potentially associated with the project site and the surrounding areas. UltraSystems biologists visited the project site to conduct the following general biological surveys: habitat assessment and plant community mapping, general plant survey, general wildlife survey, jurisdictional assessment and delineation, and wildlife movement evaluation. UltraSystems then prepared and submitted to LACDPW a Natural Environment Study (NES) for the project. A NES is a federal-based document triggered by projects associated with Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The NES described the existing biological environment and how the project alternatives might affect that environment.
